Shanti gave birth on Thursday last, a press release said today. Both the mother and cub have been kept in isolation while the Zoo Veterinary staff and keepers taking care of the tiger are the ones having access to the enclosure.

The eyes of new born cub, which was under constant care of its mother, was expected to open only after 10 to 12 days, the release said.

Visitors to the zoo will have to wait for at least a month before they can have a glimpse of the tiger cub. Earlier a male tiger cub was born from the same couples Raghav and Shanti on November 27 last died on January after surviving for 40 days. The male cub died after its mother abandoned within a fortnight of its birth even though the zoo keepers efforts to feed the cub manually failed.
