Lebanese Lion Cub to be Confiscated

The owner of the Drakenstein Lion Park on Monday said he was eager to rescue a five-week-old cub that is being kept as a pet in Lebanon’s capital.

An animal welfare organisation in Beirut contacted the lion park’s Paul Hart to ask whether he would be able to save and rehabilitate the feline.

Hart said he was waiting for Lebanese authorities to give him the go-ahead.

“It’s a local animal welfare organisation that’s involved and it has good ties to the local authorities, but there are no facilities in Lebanon that can provide long-term sanctuary to animals like lion cubs,” he said.
