The first recorded time exoticanimalsforsale.net came up on our radar was 2010 when we got this email complaining that the seller was a fraud:

I was searching the internet the other day looking for info on sugar gliders I came across this post and thought it may be of interest to you this person is offering for sale barbary lion cubs. This distressed me quite a bit seeing as how they are extinct in the wild here is the ad. and the url for the website where i found it——->
please be very carful dealing with this guy. I tried to work with this guy but he is not true. I have white tiger, white lion cubs and true barbary lion cubs. Please fill free to contact me but you must be a zoo or private breeder. I also found this ad yesterday with a picture of the cub when I called your organization today and went bact to the website to get more info the ad was gone. Im sure the admin of the site could get the contact info in their cashed files. below is the ad.

2019 Complaint
Hello. I’m doing a project about the problems big cats face when held in captivity for school. I wanted to see how easy it was to buy one online.
I found all of these websites within the click of the mouse. (But it is great that except for searching “I want a serval cat,” BCR was the first website that showed up with the page about the risks of owning a big cat)
http://www.buytigers.com/
https://www.
ARE THESE FOR REAL?!?!?!?!?!
I’ve been to your sanctuary when I was visiting Florida and these websites and people make me so mad!!!
If you look at the tiger website it says tigers are “PERFECTLY HARMLESS”!!!!
Sorry for the rant but I love big cats and all animals really. I always feel so sorry for the big cats that are being raised and sold by those evil people!!!
I just wanted to say that the tour I took was super eye-opening and inspiring! I learned A LOT and I wished I had heard of BCR and gone sooner!
2023 Update
For years we have believed this site was just a scam to separate ignorant people who want to trade in wildlife from their money, but we can’t be sure. In searching the WHOIS database, they have extended their domain name out to 2029 and are hiding behind a proxy at GoDaddy.com

Do You Know?
Most of the endangered species they offer on their site are not legally traded in the U.S., and are rarely found to be in private hands and backyard menageries, so that’s why we have doubted the site posed any real threat to animals, but if you know differently, please let us know in the comments.
