Peoria Zoo Breeds More Tigers for Cage Life
The Peoria Zoo announced the birth of four new tiger cubs born June 24, 2012. The father Vaska and mother Kyra were just recently introduced and obviously are a compatible couple. Vaska is eleven years old and came from the Minnesota Zoo where his brother also sired a litter of two cubs but unfortunately only one cub survived. The Peoria cubs consist of two males and two females. At the initial physical exam their vital signs were measured and a microchip was implanted between the shoulders to permanently identify them. The cubs weighed between 3-5lbs and no congenital defects were noted. At their two week physical they had just opened their eyes to a new world. Soon the tiger siblings will start to explore the world outdoors which will be really interesting to watch. Go to Peoria Zoo Tiger cubs on youtube to see the tiger birth and first physical exam.
